The 1st Korea in 5 Letters Snail Mail Club Letter was sent from Suwon. Unfortunately, I couldn't include photos in the letter, so I decided to create this page for the members who wanted to "see" more pictures from Suwon, South Korea!

Suwon in South Korea.

If you're visiting Suwon overnight, here is all the research I did on Suwon hotels- it's usually done as a day trip but I met someone who spent a week there!

Where the Letter was Written: Booter Cafe

Booter Cafe in Suwon, South Korea.
The letter was written at Booter Cafe in Suwon.
Yellow letter paper on a table.
Here's what the actual letter looked like (sent to J.) I asked the photocopying place to copy in color but I guess something got lost in translation...

Cafe 2

It was so swelteringly hot we had to stop at another cafe to take shelter...

View of Suwon parade from a cafe.
So lucky to get a glimpse of the parade from this cafe.
Perilla ice cream in Korea.
Tried perilla ice cream for the first time- surprisingly good!

More Photos of Suwon

Suwon parade race.
They were having some kind of race. You should hear everyone cheering! Good Fun.
Walking along the fortress in Suwon.
Walking along the Suwon fortress wall. (Quite crowded as everyone was trying to get a better view of the parade.)
Flower field in Suwon.
Lovely flower field opposite the wall.
Mural of Suwon fortress in Suwon.
A mural drawn opposite the wall.
Paper boxes in Suwon, South Korea.
There was an exhibition in a tent where we saw this. We thought it was some kind of avant garden art exhibition but later realized it was just their packaging materials! (As we were later told the tent wasn't open to the public (despite a sign advertising the exhibition.)
Stray cat in Suwon South Korea.
Lots of cats in Korea!

What I ate

Korean octopus rice.
I wanted to have Korean food since, well, we're in Korea! But in the cafe street it was mostly international food so we didn't have much choice besides the above!
Popular Praha Bread shop in Suwon.
The chimney bread in Suwon is famous!

Rookie mistake: we didn't book a place for dinner and THEY WERE ALL FULL!

I also couldn't get a cab at the cafe street- as they had blocked up a lot of the road for the parade- so had to walk quite a bit further away to get a cab. (Bought the bread to tide us over and it tasted good.)

Souvenirs

Souvenir Shop in Suwon.
One of the souvenir shops visited.
Cat cups in Suwon.
Something I wish I could send you guys but it cost like 3x my letter. Not to mention postage!!
Museum of Art in Suwon.
Popped in to the Museum to see if they had cool souvenirs but they didn't seem to have a gift shop? Tons of people hiding the sun inside though! (But no AC..!)
Caricature.
Caricature of me done in Suwon- it's a chain called Acorn caricature that you'll find all over Korea and they give you extra gifts if you pay in cash!

Would you visit Suwon South Korea? Let me know in the comments!
