Singapore has a wide variety of great hotels, ranging from city-centre properties to beaches and resorts. Although it is known for its modern cityscape, if you're looking for a more relaxing and enjoyable holiday, these Singapore Beaches and resorts will not disappoint!
Many of the beach resort accommodation comes equipped with a private balcony, offering stunning views of the ocean, a golf course, or lush tropical gardens. Some even feature private pools or a hot tub, allowing for a more exclusive and relaxing stay. Almost every single one will have an outdoor pool, and some even have access to the beach!
Obviously, the more facilities, the steeper the price!
Most of the beach hotels in Singapore are located on Sentosa Island.
There are a few in other parts of the island, but they're usually not luxury hotels. (Some can also get quite overrun by families with young children, especially during the school holidays.) If you're trying to escape city life, Sentosa is the best place to go, without actually leaving the island state. (See FAQ on beach resorts in other parts of Asia.)
Some of the hotels there have wonderful sea views!
Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa
Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa is the only luxury beachfront resort in Singapore, located along Siloso Beach on Sentosa Island.
The upscale resort offers a wide range of facilities and posh accommodations to ensure guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Guests can indulge in various activities such as water sports, beach volleyball, or simply lounging by the resort's impressive swimming pool.
However, do note that the hotel is getting on in age, so it may not feel super luxurious. If you want something more modern and stylish, I recommend Capella instead.
Note: there is also a Shangri-La on the main Singapore island- which does decent local cuisine for a hotel actually (the best local food is still to be found in hawker centres)- so do make sure you give clear instructions to your Grab or taxi driver!
Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa
Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa is a beach resort located on top of a cliff. I wouldn't call it luxurious, but it's pretty comfortable. Check-in is at 3 p.m. and check-out at 12 noon.
The resort has 215 rooms, an award-winning spa, So SPA, and several on-site restaurants serving diverse cuisines. There are several games and rides on the hotel grounds, such as a Foosball table, and some Obstacle Course Games. Guests also enjoy direct access to Tanjong Beach and can stay active at the fitness center or the tennis court.
The dining options include Italian food at The Cliff (not as good as Capella's Fiamma) and pan-Asian cuisine at Kwee Zeen. If you get bored or run out of food options on the island, there's a shuttle bus to Harbourfront MRT (the local subway or tube network.)
Note that many of the public spaces are not air-conditioned (though the rooms are) so it's not the best hotel if you're trying to escape the tropical heat! When I last stayed there, the hotel also felt a little understaffed, as we wandered the grounds several times without seeing any hotel staff, which felt a little weird!
Amara Sanctuary Resort Sentosa
Nestled amid lush greenery on Sentosa Island, Amara Sanctuary Resort Sentosa claims to offer a serene retreat for visitors seeking tranquility and relaxation. Unfortunately, the standards of the room, pool and service are a bit hit-and-miss...
Capella Singapore is a luxury beach resort situated on Sentosa Island, just 700 feet from the beach. It is THE place to go if you want a hotel with luxurious rooms that is tranquil: it has over 30 acres of lush grounds and gardens! (Very impressive when you're located in a country as tiny as Singapore!
It was built in the 1880s for the British officers of the Royal Artillery and their families and converted into a hotel in 2009. I was here when it first opened, about 15 years ago, for a friend's wedding and, when I brought my elderly relatives back again in 2023, the hotel still looked brand new! It's also a great place for some alone time, as there are only 112 spacious rooms/ villas/ suites. (Or bring your furry friend along, as they're pet-friendly.) You can even upgrade to a room with your own private pool (plunge pool.)
In addition, Capella's outdoor swimming pool has a beautiful and peaceful setting, right next to its Italian restaurant, Fiamma, which does 1 of the best tiramisus in Singapore. The Chinese restaurant, Cassia, is also not bad- hence it books up pretty quickly! And he breakfast buffet is pretty good too!
But what really sets Capplla apart from other 5-star hotels is the service: warm, friendly and efficient.
However, as 1 of the best resorts in Singapore, be warned, it's priced that way! Not for those looking for affordable prices! If budget is not a concern, Capella would be my top pick for a beach resort stay in Singapore. (They also do longer-stay promotions.)
Note: if you want an infinity pool with a view, I recommend Marina Bay Sands Hotel. It is NOT a beach resort, but it has excellent service and a lovely waterfront location. I have done many staycations there and will be writing a detailed review of the hotel soon. (Do note that everyone loves the infinity pool, so it gets pretty crowded.)
If you're wondering what it's like to live on the island of Sentosa, I recommend staying at W Singapore- Sentosa Cove.
The hotel is located right next to the only condominium blocks on Sentosa. (There are also some landed properties nearby- it's the only part of Singapore where foreigners can buy landed property.) There's also a small row of restaurants and a shop or 2 within walking distance of W. It's a great place to relax with a book and admire the sight of the boats docked in the marina.
For those who enjoy checking out local supermarkets when you travel- I'm one of those!- there's also a small supermarket near W Singapore. (It caters to the residents of the apartment blocks.)
D'Resort @ Downtown East Singapore
If you've had enough of Sentosa, why not travel to the East of Singapore?
D'Resort @ Downtown East Singapore is located in Pasir Ris, which is in the eastern part of the city. It's very close to the airport, and offers guests a casual and convenient urban beach resort experience.
The resort features contemporary rooms with views of the nearby Pasir Ris Park and the sea. Guests can enjoy easy access to the park's beach, as well as a range of leisure and entertainment facilities, including a water park, a bowling alley, and an indoor playground.
Sentosa Island Beaches
Sentosa Island is a popular destination in Singapore, offering various beach options with different vibes. The South China Sea surrounds this island, providing picturesque views and warm waters to enjoy. Among the beaches on Sentosa Island, you will find Palawan Beach, Tanjong Beach, and Siloso Beach.
Palawan Beach is known for its family-friendly atmosphere and its suspension bridge that leads to a small islet, considered to be the southernmost point of continental Asia. With its calm waters and numerous beachside dining options, it is perfect for a relaxing day with the family.
Tanjong Beach offers a more serene environment, making it an ideal spot for sunbathing, reading, or taking a peaceful walk along the shore. Its crescent-shaped layout and soft sand make for a tranquil getaway from the bustling city.
Siloso Beach is Sentosa's most happening destination, with a lively bar scene and various watersports activities to choose from. The luxurious Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa resort is located along this beach, offering its guests exclusive access to a dedicated stretch of the shore.
Changi Beach is another popular beach in Singapore, situated along the northeastern coast. Known for its historical significance during World War II, this beach has since become a serene spot for beachgoers. It is popular among locals for barbecues, jogging, and scenic views of planes taking off and landing at the nearby airport.
Punggol Beach is a lesser-known gem located in the northeastern part of Singapore. Characterized by its rugged coastline and vast open spaces, it provides an excellent spot for photography enthusiasts and those looking for a quiet, more untouched beach destination. Punggol Beach is also a popular spot for fishing and enjoying nature trails.
For those who want to venture off the beaten path, Lazarus Island is an idyllic, pristine beach.
Accessible by boat from Singapore, this island offers a beautiful and serene beach experience, away from the crowds. The calm waters and white sands make it an ideal spot for swimming, snorkeling, and relaxing in unspoiled nature.
