MBS is famous for all its celebrity chef restaurants, but how good are they actually? Here's an unsposnsored Marina Bay Sands Cut Review!
Marina Bay Sands Hotel (MBS) is Singapore's most famous hotel- also one of the most expensive, so click here for a detailed review of whether staying at MBS is worth it (I love it, but it may not be for everyone.)
It's also home to many celebrity restaurants, such as Cut Steakhouse by Wolfgang Puck. Cut opened to a lot of fanfare, and several years after opening still remains very popular. I had quite a hard time booking dinner there, so make sure you reserve in advice if you want to go!
Like MBS, dining at Cut can be pricey, so here's a MBS Cut Steakhouse review to help you decide if you should include it in your Singapore itinerary.
Cuisine: It's the only Michelin-starred steakhouse in Singapore.

Google rating: 4.6
Location
Cut Restaurant is located in the MBS Shoppes (shopping complex), near Mott 32, Koma Japanese restaurant, and above the MBS Rasapura Masters Food Court.
How to Get There
The MBS Shoppes are directly connected to Bayfront MRT station- albeit a fairly long walk away- so the cheapest easy way to get there is by taking the MRT (subway.)
Alternatively, if you're splurging, you can also take a taxi!
Ambience
Like the MBS hotel and Spago restaurant, the service at Cut is very good.
Unfortunately, it's let down by the ambience. The acoustics are simply dreadful, and it attracts quite loud diners. I could hear every single word- very loudly- of the people dining a few tables away. It honestly gave me quite a headache, and the whole experience was so unpleasant that I feel like I should have been paid to eat there instead of vice versa!
The food is good- more on this later- but there are other places in Singapore where I can have equally good food in more enjoyable surroundings.
If you really want to dine at Cut, I would recommend going for EARLY CUTS or LATE CUTS instead, it's usually less crowded and less expensive. (Note that Late Cuts only runs on Fridays and Saturdays, between 10-11 p.m.) Both are "only" S$125 per person (each.) The downside is that they don't have the potato side dish, which was the BEST dish of the night (and maybe even the best potato dish I've ever had!) Alternatively, go for the Late Rough Cuts (also Friday and Saturday, 10-11 p.m.), where you get a few different dishes on the menu.
The place is quite dimly lit, so if you enjoy noisy places, it's quite a Date Night kind of restaurant. (It's much fancier than your typical steakhouse.)
Food
Bread Basket
I always judge a high-end restaurant, by the quality of its bread basket, and Cut excels here. You get so many different types of very delicious bread! (The potatoes and the bread actually attract me more than the steak- having said that, whilst I do enjoy beef, I'm not a fanatic.)
To be honest, if you're not shy, you could just have an appetizer and you'd be full from the bread!
Appetizers
We were celebrating a special occasion so we splurged and got the caviar.
It was not bad, but I guess I don't appreciate caviar enough- or earn enough- to want to pay that amount again! (S$150)
The scallop carpaccio was good. (S$42)
The Steak
Obviously, the highlight of the menu is the steak (it is a steakhouse after all.)
And the quality of the meat is very good, and it was cooked perfectly. However, it is priced to match! The steak above cost a few hundred Sing dollars.
After eating Japanese beef, I typically find Western steak much too dry, but this steak was delicious. Actually, just looking at the photo is making me crave it again!
At these prices, I would honestly expect at least one sauce to be included but, nope, it's S$5 per sauce.
Non-steak items
My Mother had the lobster (she only eats her beef well-done, and I thought it was a travesty at these prices.) The Whole Roasted Maine Lobster, Black Truffle Sabayon is S$180 for 1 kg. She enjoyed it.
Seniors' Tip: If your hands tremble, you'll appreciate that the lobster is de-shelled before it is served to you.
If you're on a budget, the cheapest main on the menu is the "Baby Chicken Cooked On Rotisserie, First Of The Season Morel Mushrooms, Natural Jus" for S$48.
Sides
We had the potatoes as a side dish: Peewee Potatoes, “Patatas Bravas”, Garlic Aioli (S$18)
This was recommended by the waiter and it was a GREAT recommendation. I would actually like to go back just for the potatoes but I feel like I might get weird looks 😛
Note: you don't have to order so much. We went a bit overboard because we wanted to try a lot of different things.
Desserts
Can you believe we still had room for dessert? The sorbet was OK but not very memorable. Definitely would not spend S$24 on it again. Very pretty though.
The meal ended with complimentary petit-fours.
Service
The service is very good but slightly less personal than Spago, also by Wolfgang Puck and located on the MBS rooftop near the world's largest infinity pool. (I still remember that our waiter at Spago dining room is from Poland, because he struck up a conversation with us, but I don't remember much about the waiter at Cut, apart from the fact that the service standard was high. We also spent much less at Spago FYI :P)
Pricing and Value
Our meal ended up costing quite a lot- MUCH more than we usually pay when we dine out (like 10x more lol.)
I wouldn't go back and spend that amount again at Cut- too expensive and the overall dining experience wasn't enjoyable enough to make it worth it (due to the noise etc.) The steak was good, but it wasn't the best steak I'd ever had, though it was one of the most expensive pieces of steak I had!
However, I definitely want to go back for those Potatoes! And I would ask to sit outside (close to the entrance) instead, so that I'm not in an enclosed space where the noise bounces around.
