If you're going to pay US$1000 for a hotel room, then you want to know all about staying there, from the room to the quality of the food and free things to do in the area. I've written dozens of articles to cover staying at the MBS Hotel as comprehensively as possible- this one is all about Marina Bay Sands Poolside Dining experience!
Poolside dining is on the top floor (57th) of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel (MBS), where the famous infinity pool and observation deck are location. (Click for a review of the pool.)
You can only use the pool and dine at the poolside if you're staying at MBS, but when a hotel is so pricey, you'll need a lot of information before deciding whether or not to book! (Here is a detailed review of my 10+ stays at MBS.)
Location
- 57th or top floor of the MBS hotel.
You can also find Lavo Italian Restaurant, Ce La Vie and Spago on this floor. (These 3 outlets are open to non-hotel guests.)
Ambience
There are picnic tables that you can dine at, at one end of the rooftop.
However, I prefer to sit on the lounge chairs and dine there instead, as you can enjoy a view of the sea and sky. (There are tables by the side, so it's very convenient.)
The best seats are the ones right next to the glass railing, which have canopies over a padded lounger. (It can get very sunny if you're lunching there, so the covering is very handy!)
Food
If you're on a budget, the cheapest item you can order as a meal is the 3 Cheese Sandwich at S$18.
I ordered the Angus Beef Burger(S$36) and it was good. Not the best burger I've ever had, but the best one at MBS. You get a ton of fries and some ketchup. I would be happy to order it again, if I wasn't trying to cut out beef from my diet.
Other places to get a burger at the Marina Bay area include:
- Yardbird: meh, comes with fries (S$32)
- The Burger Food Truck (Vegan): S$16, tasted like a MacDonalds burger, no fries, and so small I was not full after that! (I paid $16.50 as they didn't tell me they charge 50 cents for the paper bag.)
- Black Tap Craft Burgers: worst burger in MBS (the meat was so bland) (S$29, comes with fries. I paid $46.44 in total.)
You can also get very good but very expensive steak at Cut Steakhouse in MBS Shoppes.
Drinks
Fresh juices and smoothies range from S$10-15 in price. Not cheap, but we are in a 5-star hotel!
When friends are in town, I always bring them to try the Singapore Sling. Raffles Hotel is one of the most iconic places to have it, since it was invented there, but if you wanna try somewhere different, they serve it here too for S$24.
Service
It's generally easy enough to place your order- the waiters will come over to check if you want anything. Food is also served pretty promptly, in general.
However, if you're ordering in between meals (for example around 1130 am, when it's not quite breakfast or lunch), there may be a long wait.
I would say service at the poolside is a little less well-trained than the other parts of the hotel (where it's terrific.) For example, when I tried to order food at 1130, the waiter did not tell me that the kitchen was actually closed whilst they were switching to lunch service. (It only came up after I asked several questions, and I think it should be mentioned as it would mean you have to wait much longer for your food!)
FAQs
Hotel guests can enjoy a burger, sandwiches, sushi rolls, salads, and even alcoholic drinks.
